Meet our Creative Media Apprentice Technicians
Harry Watson
Apprentice Technician

"I joined Queen's as an apprentice Technician in January 2024. Some of the tasks I take on as an Apprentice Simulation Technician in the KN Cheung SK Chin Intersim Centre, are aiding in the setting up of equipment to support Clinical Skills and takedown of the same, including computer-controlled patient simulators (high-fidelity manikins from SimBaby to SimMan), task trainers, hospital equipment and medical supplies.

I also would help with the Audio-Visual aspect of the various classes, namely the equipment used for live streaming so students and their peers can watch each other during the simulation activities from a different location (debrief room), and shortly will be using video production equipment, and other media types to provide learning resources; help with fixing faults using a range of techniques."

"Finally, use the software within the control rooms, which can be changed on the fly (LLEAP) to push actions on the manikins – i.e. change the pupil sizes, add sounds, etc.

In May 2024, I was awarded 'Runner-up' in the Technician Awards, Newcomer Category."

Apprentice Technician

""I've been a technician apprentice since September 2024, working in the School of Nursing and Midwifery and studying Creative Media & Film in Belfast Met. I enjoy the varied style of work; with most days having a mixture of setup, maintenance, filming and editing to technical support and more."
