"I wanted to engage with current students"
"After I received my undergraduate midwifery offer, I attended the School of Nursing and Midwifery offer holder day. My first impression of nursing and midwifery at Queen’s was positive and exciting. I wanted to engage with current students and that’s exactly what I got to do. The current students were approachable, friendly and willing to answer any questions. Hearing their experiences on campus and on placement made me excited to accept my offer and I couldn’t wait to be wearing the midwifery uniform.
The offer holder day was well organised and you can find out information about every course. If you have offers for more than one course the offer holder day is a must to attend because it will help you to confirm your choice. I attended a short information session delivered by one of the tutors about the content we would study during the midwifery course. You could ask questions in the group or privately to one of the students or tutors.
Both the students and tutors were welcoming and excited to meet prospective students. It was great to meet other prospective students who are just as excited as you. We got to see the simulation and clinical skills facilities that as a midwifery student we would be using. I would really recommend attending because it was great to see around the building that most my classes are in now. It makes your first day less nerve-racking when you know where you are going."
Charlene Spence, BSc Midwifery, NI
"The experience solidified my decision that Queen’s was right for me"
"I always had my sights set on Queen’s – being from Donegal, I thought Belfast was the perfect distance away from home (not too close, but not too far!), and I was sure I wanted to do Law with Spanish, which isn’t offered in as many universities as it should be! Queen’s ticked all the boxes for me, but my experience was very different to a typical year due to COVID-19. I attended the Queen's AHSS offer holder event, which was held virtually in March 2021. It was unfortunate because I didn’t have the opportunity to visit the campus, but it didn’t mean that I suffered in terms of being able to speak with staff and students about their experiences. The experience only solidified my decision that Queen’s was right for me!"
Grace Nelson, LLB Law with Spanish, Donegal, Ireland
"It covered all aspects of the transition to university and put my mind at ease"
"It was so helpful. I was so happy to participate in a virtual webinar last year for offer holders, three months before the beginning of the semester. As an international student, I had thousands of questions about what’s it like living, studying and working here in Northern Ireland. Leaving home can be scary, especially when you don’t know anyone in a new country. Thankfully, the webinar was perfect because it covered all aspects of the transition to university and put my mind at ease. Queen’s is a great place for internationals because it makes us feel right at home since the beginning, so I was sure this was the right place for me.
Also, after the first webinar they divided us into regions, so I was in a new meeting with only new students from Latin America, which was great because I felt so connected to all of them in this journey together.
All of those resources for students as well as the multicultural background makes the experience of coming to Queen’s so rewarding!"
Miguel Ruiz Reyes, BSc Psychology, El Salvador, Latin America
"Immediately, I felt their warm, welcoming energy"
"I attended a virtual offer holder event since I was overseas. It was really wonderful. There were some incredible presenters who introduced me to so many different facets of life on campus. They covered topics like academics, community building, accommodation, and generally integrating into Belfast’s beautiful culture. Immediately, I felt their warm, welcoming energy. I remember thinking to myself, “If this is what folks at Queen’s are like through a screen, I can’t even imagine how kind and caring they’ll be in person.”
I had a few schools in the UK on my list of potentials, and coming all the way from New York, I knew I’d need a really strong support system to thrive. The offer holder event was what solidified my decision to choose Queen’s because it assured me I would find that here."
Brittany Marasciulo-Rivera, MA Creative Writing, New York, USA
"That’s when I realised how esteemed the academic staff here was"
"I was fortunate enough to attend an offer holder day virtually. The one I attended was mostly focused on my course, Bachelors of Law; the event introduced us to all of the modules we would be undertaking during our degree and all of the co-curricular activities Queen's had in store for us. It was after the event when I started to research Queen's deeply. I researched all of the modules, even going as far as to highlight the ones I would want to choose in my third year. I researched all of the module instructors, and that’s when I realised how esteemed the academic staff here was, which ultimately became the reason why I chose Queen's."
Muhammad Abdul Rehman, LLB Law, Pakistan
"These events give you a real feel of the campus"
"As a home-bird with a deep love for Northern Ireland and my home, I never really considered leaving for university although I would love to have the option to travel at some point in my degree. Queen’s University Belfast stood out not only as a great institution but it also offered travel opportunities for when wanderlust hit. If you’re undecided about where to go, I highly recommend attending an offer holder day. Though mine were online due to COVID, these events give you a real feel of the campus and everyone is very willing to give you advice to help come to an informed decision you know you’ll be happy with!"
Chloe McCann, BA English, NI
"The lecturers were all very kind and approachable"
"Back in 2021, I attended Queen’s Medicine offer holder day. I found it initially all so overwhelming – what a huge amount of information to take in! I really enjoyed having a look around the campus. Though I wasn’t planning on staying in accommodation, I loved getting a chance to see it too. The facilities in BT9 were so clean and tidy, with an onsite shop and chill area, all a 20 minute walk away from the MBC.
I found out more about what the degree entailed and met some of the staff. The lecturers were all very kind and approachable which helped me feel included right from the get-go. All of this really helped solidify that this was the university for me."
Callista Middleton, Medicine, NI
