As a Lebanese clinical health psychology master's student at Queen's University Belfast, I have learned that finding the right accommodation is essential for a successful and enjoyable university experience. After living in Belfast for over a year, I want to share my insights to help future students navigate the accommodation options available. This guide will cover the accommodation provided by Queen's University as well as some excellent private external options.

Queen's University Belfast Accommodation

Elms BT1: The Heart of Belfast City Centre

Located in the lively city centre, Elms BT1 is just a 30-minute walk from the Lanyon Building, the main campus of Queen's University. This central location ensures easy access to shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it ideal for students wanting to embrace urban life. Elms BT1 offers two primary types of accommodation: ensuite private rooms and studio apartments.

Ensuite rooms are part of shared apartments accommodating 4 to 6 students, with a shared kitchen and dining area. In contrast, studio apartments cater to those seeking privacy. Residents can enjoy various amenities, including a coffee and tea bar, pool and ping pong tables, and a relaxing social lounge. The accommodation also features an onsite gym, allowing students to stay active conveniently.

The Residential Life Events Programme fosters social interactions through daily events such as cooking classes, movie nights, and themed gatherings. Students can also embark on weekend trips to places like the Giant's Causeway and Dublin, creating lasting memories with fellow residents.

Elms BT2: Close to the Action

Just a five-minute walk from Elms BT1, Elms BT2 offers similar room options, making it another excellent choice for students. Located about 25 minutes from the university campus, it is conveniently accessible via bus routes. Elm's BT2 features a common area with a coffee nook, TV, board games, and recreational facilities like pool and ping pong tables. The laundry facilities are managed by Circuit Laundry UK, ensuring convenience for all residents.

Grocery stores such as Iceland, Spar, Centra and Tesco Express are within walking distance, and the popular Victoria Square shopping centre is just a 10-minute stroll away. This accommodation is perfect for those who want to live in the bustling city of Belfast, which maintains proximity to Queen's campus. Elms BT2 emphasises a conducive living environment, offering lifestyle options like single-gender living and quiet accommodations for focused study.

Elms BT9: A Student Village Experience

For students seeking a more tranquil living environment, Elms BT9 is a student village located a bit further from the city centre but surrounded by beautiful greenery. It's just a 10-minute bus ride or a 15-minute walk from the Lanyon Building, providing a peaceful setting for academic pursuits. The village comprises 50 three-storied accommodation blocks, each featuring 10-11 bedrooms with shared common rooms and kitchens on each floor.

The main social space, known as The Treehouse, serves as a hub for student activities, offering a coffee bar, snooker and pool tables, a TV lounge with large screens, games and karaoke room, and outdoor BBQ facilities. Elms BT9 is well-suited for first-year undergraduate students, providing a supportive community and vibrant living experience. The rooms have essential amenities, including high-speed internet, study desks, and ample storage.
