Choosing a career in medicine is often described as a calling, a path driven by a deep-seated desire to blend the rigors of science with the profound impact of human connection. For me, this journey has been one of discovery, challenge, and immense satisfaction, and it led me to Queen’s University Belfast, a place where my aspirations have begun to take tangible form.

The Perfect Balance

From an early age, I was fascinated by the intricate workings of the human body and the endless possibilities of medical science. However, my passion wasn’t solely about science; it was about people. Medicine, for me, represents the perfect equilibrium between these two elements. It allows me to apply scientific knowledge practically, helping individuals navigate their health journeys and impacting their everyday lives positively.

Why Queen's?

When it came to choosing a medical school, Queen's stood out for several compelling reasons:

Innovative Curriculum Structure

The structure of the medical programme at Queen's is both comprehensive and progressive. The initial two years combine intensive lectures with integrated GP placements, providing early exposure to real-world medical practice. This approach helps bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, something I deeply appreciate.

In the third year, the shift to full-time medical and surgical placements, supplemented by online lectures, offers an immersive learning experience. Fourth year’s focus on major specialties like geriatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and psychiatry ensures a well-rounded clinical education. Finally, the fifth year culminates in a comprehensive overview and an assistantship, preparing us thoroughly for our medical careers.
