Major modification program on the reference in non-main-stream languages!

I have decided to include the translation of titles and some useful hints to the back of field where bibliographic information is stored. This information is visible from "full record view" only.

30 September 1998

29 Russian items are added, thanks to the generous contribution by Professor Anatoly P. Milka, which includes 1985 issue of Sovetskaja Musica, 2nd and 3rd "Bachovskije chtenija" (Bach-Readings conferences), etc.

27 September 1998

116 New Items are added since 12 August, consisting of the following:

1. Bach Zenshu (Tokyo, Shogakukan; see also "Essential Collections") = 105 items, thanks to Mr Tetsuo Ohara, the editor of this important series of publication in Japanese language.
2. PhD Dissertations = 11 items.

A further list of 14 dissertations are listed separately (click here), which I have so far unable to confirm whether they are completed and accepted for the degree.

New Page -- "Essential Collections" -- is added from the entrance page where the majority of main reference items as well as important items can be searched quickly.

• Received information from Ares Rolf about the details of papers proposed to be read at Zweite Dortmunder Bach-Symposions (21-24 January 1998). Many papers are about stylistics.
• Added contents of Bachs Orchesterwerke. Bericht über das 1. Dortmunder Bach-Symposion 1996. Ed. by Martin Geck (Witten, Klangfarben-Musikverlag, 1997.) and Bach Perspectives 2: J. S. Bach, the Breitkopfs, and Eighteenth-Century Music Trade. Ed. by George Stauffer (Lincoln, Neb.: Univ. of Nebraska Press, 1996). Information was kindly provided by Areas Rolf and Daniel Melamed, respectively.

• Just received information from J.-S.-Bach Institut, Göttingen about the seminar entitled "Die Zeit, die Tag und Jahre macht." Zur Chronologie des Schaffens bei Johann Sebastian Bach. (Internationales wissenschftliches Colloquium aus Anlaß des 80. Geburtstags von Dr. DMus. h.c. Alfred Dürr, Göttingen, 13. - 15. März 1998.).
• Major additions of recent articles plus some corrections were made to the data, as many books were consulted at the BL, London last week.

2 January 1998

• Thanks to the information from Prof. Robin Leaver, I have now added the papers read at the annual meeting of the Internationale Arbeitsgemeinschaft für theologische Bachforschung, September 10-14, 1997, hosted by the Newberry Library, Chicago.
• All papers are now tagged with specific series tags, so that you can identify all the papers read at a specific conference.
• Beautiful golden Bach icon is kindly donated by Mr David Grossman.

About two hundred records have been made redundant (mainly reviews moved into the referred items) which were replaced with the new records from publisher's catalogues and OPAC97.

A structural modification was made to two fields, viz. Series & Country, to rectify the problems with search functions reported earlier. New structure for Series is explained under special series.

Some minor corrections are made to the database; ca. 20 new records replaced redundant records.

Following several calls for help information on search facilities, I have added a page and linked it from Complex Search page. Accordingly the structure of the Complex Search is slightly modified.

• In addition to about 50 new items, many items published between 1850 and 1930 contain more detailed information, as the references are compared with Sylvia Kenney's Catalog of the Emilie and Karl Riemenschneider Memorial Bach Library (1960), a kind gift to me by Dr Elinore Barber of the Riemenschneider Bach Institute.
• Improvements are made in the appearance of search result screen. Articles now appear in the following format:

I have added / updated about 300 items of recent publications, thanks to Daniel Melamed of Yale University and Elinore Barber of Riemenschneider Bach Institute at my recent visit.

Complex search now includes more specific items, such as "Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue" and "Toccata".

• Database: Adding 13 new references and fixed inconsistencies in quotes (replaced typographical quotes with straight ones); Series database now also in action.
• Many more hits can be displayed: I have decided to increase the maximum number of hit from 30 to 200.
• Enhanced search facilities: adding browse periodical browse and a link to the form view within a list generated by the search.
• Adding form view, displaying the detail of the chosen record at a time.
