4. How to install the fonts
Stage 1: downloading and unpackaging
First of all, download the required font packages from the following
links to your computer:
Next, you need to extract files from the ZIP file(s) to the folder that you can
find later. If you cannot do this on your system, you may want to use a 3rd-party software such as Winzip for this task.
Each ZIP file contains TrueType font(s) and the accompanying
documentations in both PDF and Word file. Note that to read a PDF file,
you need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
(1)
Windows XP (and earlier systems)
If you are not familiar with the font installation, please read Microsoft's
instructions "how to install or remove a font in Windows"
first.
- Click "Start" button and choose "Control Panel".
- Inside "Control Panel" window, find "Fonts" and open it. You will
see a list of all the installed fonts in your computer.
- If you have an older version of the font already installed,
remove it from your font folder. (You should take a backup copy just in
case you need it later.)
- From the "File" menu, choose "Install New Font...", and find the
font file(s) you have just extracted in a folder of your choice.
- Select all the font files in the folder, and click OK. Windows
should install the fonts.
- Your operating system now has the font, ready to use.
Go to Stage 3.
(2) Windows Vista, Windows 7
If you are not familiar with the font installation, please read Microsoft's
instructions "how to install or remove a font in Windows"
first.
- Click "Start" button and choose "Control Panel", and "Appearance
and Personalization", and then "Fonts". There you will see a list of
all the installed fonts in your computer.
- If you have an older version of the font already installed,
remove it from your font folder. (You should take a backup copy just in
case you need it later.)
- From the "File" menu in VISTA, choose "Install New Font...", and find the
font file(s) you have just extracted in a folder of your choice. (If
you don't see the File menu, press ALT.); Windows 7 doesn't show a File menu. Just drag the Bach font files (bach41.TTF, etc.) into this folder.
- Select all the font files in the folder where you have extracted
the package, and click OK. Windows
should install the fonts.
- Your operating system now has the font, ready to use.
Go to Stage 3.
(3) Other Systems, such as Mac OS X and Linux
The author of Bach font is not familiar with non-Windows system, and
regret that he cannot help those users. Please follow instructions
written by others, for example:
Stage 3: testing your
system
In each font package, you will find a documentation in Word file,
which makes use of the font to demonstrate the font. If you have successfully
installed the font, the Word file should show the musical symbols in
the document correctly. (Compare its contents with the PDF file
provided).
