This report examines sectoral productivity differences in Ireland and Northern Ireland. It attempts to understand these differences by identifying the key determinants of productivity in both economies.
Amongst its key findings, it found that productivity per worker was approximately 40% higher in Ireland compared to Northern Ireland.
This interactive event will bring together stakeholders from the two jurisdictions to discuss the report’s findings and the wider importance of productivity.
The event features a presentation of the report's main findings by Adele Bergin (ESRI) and Seamus McGuinness (ESRI), a response by David Jordan (Queen’s University Belfast), and a presentation by Bart van Ark (The Productivity Institute).
This will be followed by a panel discussion, which will welcome questions from the in-person audience, and will be Chaired by Julie McCandless (Queen’s University Belfast).
The report is part of a joint research programme between the Department of Taoiseach’s Shared Island Unit and the ESRI on the economic and social opportunities from increased cooperation on the Shared Island.
