Join us at Queen’s University Belfast for the 26th International Charles Heidelberger Symposium on Cancer Research, a prestigious event dedicated to honouring the legacy of Dr Charles Heidelberger, a pioneer in cancer chemotherapy and carcinogenesis. This symposium gathers top cancer researchers from around the globe to share cutting-edge findings, foster collaborations, and celebrate significant advancements in cancer research. 

Symposium Highlights

  • Keynote Speakers:  Renowned experts in cancer research, including former postdoctoral trainees of Dr Heidelberger, will present on topics ranging from therapeutic resistance mechanisms to novel drug development strategies.
  • Scientific Sessions:  A series of sessions will delve into topics such as cancer genomics, precision medicine, translational research, and the impact of DNA damage on cancer.

Program Schedule

The symposium will span three days and include:

October 2, 2024:

    • Morning: Welcome remarks, keynote sessions, and a focus on cancer research across the Island of Ireland.
    • Afternoon: Sessions on carcinogenesis and precision medicine.

October 3, 2024:

    • Morning: Keynote lecture provided by Prof. Ruth Plummer (Newcastle University), which will be followed by sessions on translational cancer research.
    • Afternoon: A session honouring the pioneering work of Dr Charles Heidelberger on 5-Fluorouracil.

October 4, 2024:

    • Morning: Sessions on genomic instability and advances in cancer biology.
    • Afternoon: The symposium will conclude with a session on metal and radiation biology.

Registration fees* are as follows:

  • Academic Staff/Principal Investigators: £100
  • Postdoctoral Research Fellows: £50
  • Students: £50

*Fees include daily coffee and lunch.

Poster Presentations

 Participants are encouraged to submit an abstract of their work for poster presentation. Abstracts of 300 words for poster presentations should be submitted to 26ichscr@gmail.com
