KN Cheung SK Chin InterSim Centre appoints three new Fellows
The KN Cheung SK Chin InterSim Centre has announced the appointment of three new Fellows to expand the delivery of their simulation-based healthcare training at Queen’s.

Dr Catherine Murphy, Siobhán Boyce and Hannelie Edgar have taken up their posts at the Centre which is designed to advance interprofessional simulation-based education in healthcare.
The Centre provides a unique environment where healthcare students across medicine, nursing, midwifery, dentistry and pharmacy engage in immersive, hands-on learning. The Fellows are leading on projects in dentistry, paediatrics and pharmacy.
Dr Catherine Murphy, a paediatric trainee, is leading two key projects: developing a comprehensive faculty development programme for simulation educators and examining the impact of interprofessional simulation on medical and nursing students.
Community Pharmacist Siobhán Boyce is reviewing interprofessional simulation activities addressing neurodiversity and ageing and developing simulations around prescribing medications.
Dental Simulation Fellow, Dr Hannelie Edgar, is collaborating with both the Pharmacy and Medicine Simulation Fellows to identify opportunities for interprofessional learning. Her research focuses on using simulation-based education to promote inclusivity in dentistry, particularly for individuals with learning disabilities, neurodivergent individuals and older people.
Welcoming the Fellows, Centre Director Professor Marian Traynor said: “Simulation is now recognised as a key component of all healthcare curricula, and we are delighted to support three Fellows to enhance and support the development of interprofessional simulation. The Fellows are integral to the work within InterSim and their research and innovations will help to transform the centre to meet the training needs of all our healthcare professionals.”
Speaking about the impact of philanthropy on key areas of healthcare, Director of Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy, Eddie Friel, said: “Philanthropy has paid an integral part in the development of the Centre and, most recently, philanthropic support for the Fellows is having a huge impact with all three invited to present their work at the prestigious SESAM conference in Valencia this year.
This Centre continues to enrich the student experience through the provision of enhanced simulated teaching and excellent teaching facilities and will ultimately impact positively on patient care.”
