The Lord Kerr Scholarship was established in memory of Baron Kerr of Tonaghmore, Law alumnus of Queen’s in 1969, former Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland and Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. 

Speaking about  the award, Aine who graduated in 2022,  said: “I am privileged to have been selected as the recipient of the Lord Kerr scholarship for 2023/24. The Lord Kerr scholarship has been a huge assistance for my family, who have been incredibly supportive in my ambitious dream to become a Barrister. I’m determined to make the most of this exceptional opportunity. It is a real dream come true. 

Lord Kerr was passionate about protecting the vulnerable within our justice system, and protecting those values which uphold it. I hope to honour his memory by keeping those same values at heart when I begin to practice.” 

 As a lasting legacy to Lord Kerr’s commitment to both Queen’s and The Bar of Northern Ireland, and to his vision of a more diverse Bar, the Scholarship is awarded annually to one Law graduate, to fund their fees for the Bar Trainee course at the IPLS.
