Privy Council Notes:
- 'The lords of the committee having this day had under consideration … were pleased to order that the same should be postponed, and did thereupon come to the following resolution, vizt.
"That it be recommended to Lord Viscount Weymouth, one of his majesty's principal secretaries of state, do write to the lord lieutenant of Ireland to acquaint him, that the principle upon which the lords of the council have thought fit to postpone the tillage bill, is, that the advantage their lordships propose to the agriculture of Ireland, if it should extend as far as they wish it to extend, would sink too deep into the hereditary revenue which is contrary to the obvious meaning of the resolution of the house of commons of Ireland of the 15th of March 1774, upon which the lords of the committee came to that resolution of 11th of December last, which was signified to the lord lieutenant of Ireland in the letter from the Lord Viscount Weymouth of the 14th of the said month. But it is great satisfaction to their lordships, that the not returning the present bill will not determine the payment of the bounty, 'till another session of the parliament of Ireland meets, when a bill may be sent overfor renewing the same, in such form that no reasonable objection can be made to it."
Ordered that the clerk of the council in waiting do transmit a copy of the above minute to Sir Stanier Porten to be laid before Lord Weymouth.'
