Privy Council Notes:
- '… having this day had under consideration … copy of the said bill … referred to the lords commissioners for trade and plantations, who are to consider what duty should now be laid upon refined sugar imported from Great Britain into Ireland, in consideration of the duties laid in the said bill upon raw sugars imported into Ireland, so as to leave the British and Irish refiners respectively, as nearly as possible in the same situation they have hitherto been, and report their opinion to this committee with all possible dispatch.' (PC 2/125, p. 195, 27 June 1780).
'Humble memorial of the sugar refiners of London' (PC 2/125, p. 195, 27 June 1780).
'… having this day had under consideration … together with the report from the lords commissioners for trade and plantations touching the duty which should now be laid upon refined sugar imported from Great Britain into Ireland [detail] referred back to the lords commissioners for trade and plantations [detail]' (PC 2/125, pp 229-30, 6 July 1780).
'referred to the commissioners of the customs, who are to examine the said bill [detail]' (PC 2/125, p. 241, 13 July 1780).
Report of commissioners for trade and plantations considered; noted that duty 'upon the importation of foreign sugar is not high enough to answer the intention of the parliament of Ireland', and resolved to write to lord lieutenant of Ireland to 'communicate their lordships' opinion in this regard to his excellency for his information'. Bill referred back to attorney general for specified alterations (PC 2/125, pp 261-2, 18 July 1780).
Decision to 'transmit the annexed copies of two reports of the lords commissioners for trade and plantations relative to the said bill, to the lord lieutenant of Ireland, for his excellency's information' (PC 2/125, p. 319, 4 Aug. 1780).
