Dr Ibrar Bhatt delivered the closing plenary at the annual BAAL conference on Friday 25th August. Ibrar’s keynote address on 'Postdigital Possibilities in Applied Linguistics' delved into the complex background to the term "postdigital," its historical context, and how it has the potential to influence and shape the field of applied linguistics. Ibrar argued that the relationship between the digital world and human life is deeply interwoven and this offers new avenues for inquiry in applied linguistics. One of the primary takeaways was the importance of a ‘broadly defined’ research scope for applied linguistics, through a postdigital framing.
