British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023
The School of Law at Queen’s University Belfast invites eligible candidates with excellent research potential who are interested in developing a proposal for a 2023 British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship in any of our thematic research areas. These areas are human rights; criminology and criminal justice; transitional justice; international and European law; private and commercial law; law and technology, and intellectual property law. Ranking joint 8th in the UK in the Research Excellence Framework 2021, the School is a world-leading location for research with a vibrant research environment that is well placed to support early career research.
This annual competition provides a fully funded three-year award to outstanding early career researchers across any subject area in the humanities or social sciences. In addition to funding salary costs for the fellow, this scheme also provides up to £6,000 annually for research expenses.
A key aim of this fellowship is to help develop the award holder’s curriculum vitae and boost their prospects of obtaining a permanent academic post. The primary emphasis is on the completion of a significant piece of publishable research, and the integration of the award holder into the community of established scholars within their field.
Eligible applicants will be within three years of the award of their doctorate (British Academy take the date of a successful viva voce examination as the relevant date. This must fall between 1st April 2020 to 1st April 2023). British citizens and any nationals from the EEA are eligible, regardless of where their doctorate was obtained. Applicants of any other nationality who have a doctorate from a UK university are also eligible.
This scheme operates a two-stage application process, with Outline Proposals due for submission by Wednesday 4th October 2023, all submissions require prior approval from the proposed host institution.
