CCUC Travel Scholarship 2023
The School of Nursing and Midwifery are pleased to announce a new travel scholarship to the USA which is fully funded by the Children’s Cancer Unit Charity (CCUC).
The scholarship will be awarded to three students who will have the opportunity to travel to Atlanta, USA this autumn for three weeks. During the trip students will get to visit the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare, this will allow the students to get first-hand experience of a leading international cancer unit and expand their knowledge in the area.
The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is a national leader in childhood cancer, haematology, and blood and marrow transplant programs, serving infants through to young adults. The centre is recognised as one of the largest and most renowned childhood cancer centres in the U.S., annually caring for more than 2,500 children with cancer and more than 5,000 children with sickle cell disease, haemophilia and other blood disorders.
The successful applicants will also have time in their schedule to explore Atlanta and the USA. They will travel together to Atlanta on 23 September and return 14 October 2023 (dates subject to change). The scholarship is fully funded and therefore will include flights, accommodation, transport travel insurance and a daily allowance.
The scholarships will be open to nursing students in their final year of Children and Young People Nursing Undergraduate and Graduate Entry Masters (GEM) programmes.
Applicants must write a reflection of 250 to 500 words. This should display an interest and passion for nursing children with cancer and describe what has inspired them in this field. Students will be expected to demonstrate an interest in children’s cancer care and to outline how this travel scholarship would help to develop their future career in nursing children and young people with cancer in Northern Ireland.
All applicants must provide two letters of support, one from a Practice Supervisor or Practice Assessor from clinical practice and one from their Personal Tutor. Each submission will be viewed by a panel who will shortlist the candidates. Shortlisted candidates will then be asked to attend a short interview with an anticipated date of Monday 12 June. Following the interview, the three successful applicants will be notified in writing of their awarded scholarship.
Please note: Applications close Sunday 28 May. You must apply using your QUB email address and you must have a valid passport at the time of planned travel.
