Congratulations to School of Nursing and Midwifery’s Professor David Thompson who is featured in Stanford University’s database of the world’s top 2% of scientists and in the AD Scientific Index 2022.
Featured in Stanford University’s database of the world’s top 2% of scientists and in the AD Scientific Index 2022, David ranks 2/172 in the UK, 1/802 in Europe and 10/3650 in the world in nursing and midwifery.
Professor David Thompson has been a professor since 1994 and holds professional qualifications in orthopaedic, general and mental health nursing. His focus is primarily concerned with developing research and practice in the field of cardiac rehabilitation and chronic cardiovascular disease management and using it to inform education and policy.
He is recognised as an international leading authority in cardiovascular nursing and cardiac rehabilitation and has made significant contributions in synthesising and evaluating the evidence for cardiac rehabilitation; designing and evaluating novel early brief psychosocial interventions for cardiac patients/partners; and developing and validating disease-specific patient-reported outcome measures for cardiac patients. Key achievements in his career include holding the only chair in cardiovascular nursing in the UK and four international honorary/visiting professorships.
