Today is World Adherence Day and The World Heart Federation have released a short video to show the importance of adherence to evidenced based therapies, such as blood pressure medication.
It is a fact that this saves lives by preventing strokes, heart attacks and aneurysms that can kill or cause years of suffering. Professor Donna Fitzsimons from the School of Nursing & Midwifery features in this reel, as a representative of the Europeans Society of Cardiology Advocacy Committee. She says:
"We know that drugs don't work if we leave them in boxes or medicine cabinets, and that less than 50% of us, actually take prescribed medication as regularly as we should.
Today is about clarifying that adherence matters. It lets us lead healthier lives for longer!
All of us have a job to do to improve adherence - whether we are a patient, a carer or a healthcare professional - please play your part!"
