Meet Our Modern Languages' Olympians
Two former Modern Languages' graduates, James MacSorley, (Law with Spanish) and Rebecca Edwards (French and Spanish) will be representing Team GB in the forthcoming Olympics in Tokyo
Law graduate and former recipient of two Queen’s Sport bursaries, James MacSorley, has secured a place at the Tokyo Paralympic Games and will compete on Thursday 26th August in the men’s Wheelchair Basketball team event.
James, who plays his club games in Spain for ADM Econy Gran Canaria, is heading to Japan as part of Team GB’s Paralympic squad. He was announced as one of 24 men and women who will represent the UK in the Wheelchair Basketball competition when the Paralympic Games begin on 24th August.
When Rebecca Edwards takes her place in Team GB’s women's eight on the Sea Forest Waterway (Central Breakwater) in Tokyo Bay this month, it will be the culmination of an incredible journey which started at Queen’s back in 2012 for the young woman from Aughnacloy, County Tyrone.
Between 23 and 30 July 2021, sport loving Rebecca – who had never rowed before coming to Queen’s – hopes to be among the winners in the seven medal events being contested by 260+ women athletes.
Well done James and Rebecca, all of us in Arts, English and Languages are very proud of your success.
