Dr Leon Litvack discovers three more Charles Dickens Letters
Dr Leon Litvack, Principal Editor of the Charles Dickens Letters Project, has discovered three new letters written by Dickens to a Glasgow woman only identified as “Miss J.D”.

They date from 1839, early in Dickens’s career, and demonstrate how the author sympathised with this poor woman’s plight, and gave her small handouts to help her in a time of need. After Dickens died in 1870, the woman offered the letters for sale through a Glasgow newspaper, because she had once again fallen on hard times.
