Broadcast students and Broadcast lecturer Don Duncan launch "Civil Rights, Climate Wrongs" animation
Broadcast lecturer Don Duncan has launched "Civil Rights, Climate Wrongs," an interdisciplinary animation project consisting of two animated stories directed by Broadcast MA students and alums, and sound designed by a recent graduate of Music.
The project seeks to express the concerns and ideas that young people in Northern Ireland have about climate change and political inaction on environmental issues.
Editorially led by the students, the animations were produced for the funder/client Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and made in collaboration with Belfast animation company EnterYes
The first animation was directed by current Broadcast MA students Baoyan Zhang, Melissa Rae and Shauna Graham and tells the story of QUB politics student and butterfly enthusiast Dakota, who is concerned about biodiversity and political inaction on it in Northern Ireland. You can see the animation here.
The second animation was directed by Broadcast MA recent alumni Isabelle Schulz, Rory Hughes and Ryan Hogg (class of 2020) and tells the story of Nia, a young northern Irish woman who talks about how environmental damage affects her human rights. You can see the animation here.
Both films were sound designed by Jonathan Steenson (recent graduate, Music) and produced by Don Duncan. Both animations were also nominated in the "Best Animation" category in this year’s SMEDIA awards.
