The Times features a piece on a new Dickens letter, just published by Dr Leon Litvack
Today’s edition of the Times (24 October 22) features a piece on a new Dickens letter, just published by Leon Litvack on the Dickens Letters Project website.
In the letter Dickens writes to James Livermore, a wine and spirit importer, asking him to send a man to bottle off a leaking cask of Carrara wine, which the author had brought over from Italy.
Dickens writes: “It seems there was an old hole in the cask; and thirteen gallons have leaked away on the passage! So I want to take care of the rest, without delay. . . . Six or seven dozen bottles will be quite as many as I shall require, I fear, after this waste.”
