The School of Psychology welcomes Matthew Johnston
Matthew Johnston - Teaching Fellow
Matthew graduated from QUB with a BSc in Psychology in 2017. Following this he worked as a Research Assistant at the School of Nursery and Midwifery on a project investigating the effectiveness of a cognitive intervention on the attention control of very premature infants.
Matthew is currently in the final stages of writing up his PhD thesis at QUB, which explores the development of relief. This PhD is part of a wider, multidisciplinary project investigating the nature and evolutionary functions of the emotion of relief. Primarily, Matthew is interested in whether there are separate developmental profiles for two different instances of relief and whether the emergence of relief has an impact on children’s decision-making. Matthew is also interested in cognitive development and moral psychology.
Matthew is starting as a Teaching Fellow at the School of Psychology and will be delivering a range of teaching and assessment activities.
