Scholarship Opportunities
Please see below scholarship opportunities available to both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students registered at Queen’s.
These Scholarships are awarded by the University’s Student Scholarships and Awards Group.
As we enter a new academic year, we are delighted to announce the availability of a variety of scholarship opportunities for students. Scholarships open for applications include:
- A-Level Entrance Competition
- Ulster Gift Fund
- The Queen’s Women Graduates’ Scholarship
- Emily Sarah Montgomery Travel Scholarship
- Sir Thomas Dixon Travel Scholarship
A-Level Entrance Competition
All students entering the University in the academic year 2024-25 for the first time to undertake a primary degree, and who have achieved at least three ‘A’ grades at A-Level (including AVCEs), are eligible to enter the University’s annual A-Level Entrance Scholarship Competition to receive one (or more) of the following awards:
- Sullivan (RBAI) Scholarship - £200 per annum for three years (1 award)
- Reid-Harwood Scholarship - £800 per annum for three years (1 award)
- Megaw Scholarship - £1,500 for one year (1 award)
- Dunwoody Scholarships - £500 per annum for three years (2 awards)
All students entering the University for the first time in 2024-25 to undertake a primary degree, who have achieved at least three 'A*' grades at A-level, are eligible to enter the University's annual Entrance Scholarship Competition to receive one (or more) of the following awards:
- David Russell Lappin Scholarship - £600 per annum for three years (1 award)
- John Sinclair Porter Scholarship - £600 per annum for three years (2 awards)
- Sullivan Scholarship - £1,000 per annum for three years (1 award)
The recipients will be determined based on their three best A-Level marks, combined with individual award criteria.

Deadline: Thursday 17th October 2024 at 4pm
Study Level: All students entering the University in the academic year 2024-25 for the first time to undertake a primary degree.
Ulster Gift Fund
Scholarships, normally of £400 (subject to income from the fund), are offered annually for award in any school of the University.
Candidates must be people who are serving, or have served in HM Forces, or the children of such persons. If not already members of the University, candidates must have been accepted for an undergraduate course or postgraduate course in the University commencing in the current academic year. Scholarships will be awarded based on the financial need demonstrated.
To apply, students need to complete the Online Application Form.
Deadline: Wednesday 30th 2024 at 4pm
Study Level: all part-time/full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students
Eligibility: Candidates must be persons serving, or have served in HM Forces, or their children.
The Queen’s Women Graduates’ Scholarship
The Queen's Women Graduates (QWG) is interested in promoting education, especially for women, at local, national and international level. The scholarship should enhance the educational opportunities of women students, normally those who have had a gap of at least five years since attending school, who are enrolled on and are attending a degree, diploma or certificate award-bearing course at the University. Applicants should have a low income or be dependent on state benefits. Degree holders and previous QWG Scholarship holders are not eligible to apply.

All completed application forms, along with two academic references in Word or PDF format, should be submitted by 4.00pm on Thursday 14 November 2024.
Emily Sarah Montgomery Travel Scholarship and Sir Thomas Dixon Travel Scholarship
The key points to note for this round of travel scholarships are:
- These travel scholarships can be used to fund travel that will occur between 1 September 2024 and 10 January 2025 (outbound travel must have occurred within these dates).
- The student application form can be accessed here. The deadline for student applications is 4pm on Wednesday 30th October 2024.
- The School Reference Form can be found here. Applicants have been asked to forward this link to the School Reference Form to their School referee (supervisor, advisor of studies etc.) along with a copy of their application. Students receive clear guidance (in their application form) about the school reference process. The deadline for colleagues submitting the School Reference Form is 4pm on Wednesday 30th October 2024. Please note that if you would like to set an earlier deadline for the student applications to give your staff more time to complete the references, please communicate this with the students in your School.
