SSESW academic wins the QUB Innovation Challenge
SSESW academic, Dr Devon Ramey, was selected as the winner of the QUB Innovation Challenge, in partnership with Cogniss.
Cogniss is a no-code platform for patient and consumer-facing digital health apps. As the winner of the competition, Devon will complete a 4-week challenge to build a digital intervention app for autistic children.
The app “Big Feelings” will teach young autistic children essential social-emotional learning (SEL) skills using customizable content. The children will learn key emotions through videos and pictures of themselves and others, in addition to games and vignettes. They will also learn how to manage big feelings, such as anger, sadness, or frustration, using calming strategies. The app will go a step further by helping the child to navigate and communicate those big emotions when they are experiencing them.
Devon will be co-designing the app with autistic community members, as well as her SSESW colleagues, Nichola Booth and Jenny Ferguson.
