NCCPE Engage Online Conference 2023
On 6 December 2023, Dr Andrew Grounds and Professor Kathryn Higgins from QCAP presented at the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) Engage Online Event 2023.
Their conference input resulted from broader engagement between the QCAP team and the NCCPE around mutual academic interests in delivering impactful engaged research with partner communities. The online event welcomed input from local policy, academic, and community stakeholders across the UK.
QCAP's presentation focused on "Data for Action" and how data is essential to understanding community issues while also providing solutions and driving transformational change. They highlighted several ongoing QCAP community-centred projects, including:
- SMART Cityzens, a citizen science project building research and data capacity for young people.
- Applying Social Return on Investment methods to support community-driven capital project feasibility.
- Using data visualization dashboards to build data literacy and place-based understandings.
In addition to introducing these data tools, QCAP discussed their use to enable action by communities via grant applications, business plans, tenders, or strengthened engagement with funders and investors to leverage financial resources for partner communities over the short, medium, and long term.
The event was also a valuable opportunity for QCAP to learn from engaged research practices and the engagement work being completed by other research institutions across the UK.
