QCAP Research Featured on BBC NI Talkback

QCAP research fellow Dr Amanda Dylina Morse was recently invited to appear on a panel for BBC NI’s Talkback programme, hosted by William Crawley.

In response to the recent Netflix miniseries Adolescence, the panel discussed the rise of online figures like Andrew Tate who espouse violent and misogynistic ideas to millions of men and boys.

The series addresses the concept of “aggrieved entitlement” which groups of people may experience as social equity increases if they feel they are being moved from the centre of society to its margins. Tate and others like him capitalise on these fears in order to promote messages which blend fitness or financial advice with hatred for women.

The panellists emphasised the important role of youth workers to counter these narratives, as well as the urgent need for increased funding to that sector. In Dr Dylina Morse’s research, youth workers occupied a uniquely influential position for young men, offering a powerful counter narrative and positively influencing the young men they support.

This research was also recently published in The Conversation, if you would like to learn more.
