QCAP Academics Share Insights on Community-Led Housing at Housing Rights NI Event

Queen's Communities and Place (QCAP) academics Dr Andrew Grounds and Prof. Brendan Murtagh were delighted to participate in a shared learning event organised by Housing Rights NI.

At this event, they had the opportunity to share their engaged research on community-led housing initiatives. The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including several homeless service providers from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, such as Simon Community NI, Extern, Depaul Ireland, and East Belfast Mission/Hosford Community Homes.

The event provided a valuable platform for the attendees to exchange insights, experiences, and learning in addressing the complex challenges faced by homeless populations and the increasing demand for long-term housing solutions.

One of the key takeaways from the event was the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing among stakeholders working across the homelessness sector. By fostering open dialogue and learning from each other's successes and challenges, organisations can develop more effective and sustainable strategies to support vulnerable individuals and communities, particularly through community-led housing responses that can leverage and be scaled through long-term finance and loans from the growing impact investment community.

The event also featured a comprehensive policy review and detailed analysis of current homeless trends, presented by Homeless Connect. This input provided a crucial context for understanding the broader systemic factors contributing to homelessness, data which documented the rising demand and the need for evidence-based policy interventions to provide meaningful change.

The insights gained from the shared learning experience will undoubtedly inform and enrich QCAP's ongoing engaged research on community-led housing and homelessness more broadly, as it works towards supporting the development of innovative, inclusive, and sustainable housing solutions for all.
