QUB Consults Practices on Future Allocations Process
We have been hugely encouraged by the upswing in interest (and offers ) for hosting QUB medical students in the academic year for 2024-2025. Acknowledging the unintended consequence of Practices receiving fewer placement allocations than expected we have hosted a consultation with Practices, on the principles that should pertain to its allocation process. Until now allocations have been guided by two principles, namely:
1) Maximising Teaching Practice Participation
2) Fair Allocation: allocation of places in proportion to each Teaching Practice’s offer.
We sent a survey to all 159 host practices asking them to rank in order of importance 8 suggested possible criteria to be factored into the allocations process. We also asked Practices to give an indication of whether they might be interested in QUB moving to a 3-year commitment to host students.
We received 88 replies (a response rate of 55.3%) and held 2 drop-in sessions to share the results and to facilitate further discussion. Please find HERE the details of what was discussed and be assured all responses will help inform the process for allocations for the coming academic years.
