How to Make the Most of Spring Break in Belfast/NI

Spring (Easter) break is upon us, and if you're unsure how to enjoy your time off from classes and studying, we have you covered. Read below for our recommendations on spring walks, day trips and seasonal activities.

Seasonal activities on campus

If you're staying in Queen's Accommodation, you won't have to travel far for some Easter fun! Follow @qub_accommodation on Instagram for more information on their upcoming events, including an Easter bunnies activity in Elms BT1 and an Easter egg hunt in Elms BT2.

If you're feeling a little adventurous in the kitchen, why not whip up an Easter-inspired savoury or sweet dish for your flatmates? Check out BBC Good Food for a range of recipes (including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free!).

Elsewhere, postgraduate students are invited to the Thomas J Moran Graduate School on 17 April for a Spring Wreath Workshop - perfect for adding a seasonal touch to your accommodation or flat!

For fans of music and team games, the Students' Union has you spoiled for choice - from Sunday Acoustic Sessions to the popular Mid-Week Music Quiz, there's plenty of opportunities to unwind and have some craic with friends and flatmates!

Planning on venturing into the city centre for some seasonal celebrations? Make the most of the sunny weather and listen to some live music in The National's beer garden over Easter weekend. For a late night dance and DJ session, check out Ollies on Easter Sunday or SHINE on Easter Monday! Don't forget these tips for enjoying a safe night out in Belfast.

Easter wouldn't be Easter without a sweet treat - pop over to Daisies in Belfast city centre for a taste of speciality chocolates and fresh pastries.

Put a spring in your step

Now that there's a 'quare stretch in the evenings', you will have plenty of opportunities to soak up some sun on a weeknight/weekend walk. Visit Walk NI for a guide to the best walking trails in Belfast, which includes information on distances and terrains. I personally recommend a dander along the Lagan Towpath, complete with a visit to the Lock Keeper's Inn for a coffee fix and sweet treat!

Or if you're more of a morning person, make sure to follow Sunrise Social for updates on their upcoming walks up Cave Hill Country Park - check out Ghada's Cave Hill vlog for a taster of what to expect on your hike:

If you're after something a little more challenging, why not venture outside of Belfast and tackle a trail up the Mourne Mountains or along the Causeway Coast? Student Isabella has listed these among her favourite hiking spots in Northern Ireland - read her blog for further inspo!

For recommendations on running or cycling spots, check out this blog by graduate Tobias.

Take a day or weekend trip around NI

If you haven't had the chance to get out of the city to explore everything Northern Ireland has to offer, now is the perfect opportunity - with the Translink yLink smart card, you can get 50% off bus and rail travel in NI! Why not follow in the footsteps of Colombian graduate Isabella and plan trips to must-visit cities, towns and coastal villages throughout Northern Ireland and beyond, including Derry/Londonderry, Ballintoy Harbour, Ballycastle and Donegal.

Or if you'd like to go further afield, Dublin, the capital city of Ireland, is only a 2 1/2 hour journey from Belfast by car, bus or train. Lebanese graduate Ghada recently visited the city for several days - check out what she got up to below (including a trip to the famous Guinness Storehouse!):

If day trips away aren't in your budget, don't worry - Medicine student Manya has some suggestions for free things to do in Belfast on a sunny day!, including visiting the Ulster Museum, listening to live music in St George's Market, or taking a guided tour of the city.
