The Centre was well represented at the 13^th annual European Conference for Social Work Research, hosted by Vilnius University, Lithuania, with a focus on envisioning the future of social work shaped by technological innovation. Mandi MacDonald gave a keynote address on how digital communication technology shapes family practices, particularly for children placed in out-of-home care or separated from family by migration. Paul McCafferty convened a Special Interest Group with a full day of workshops envisioning the future of children’s rights in social work and facilitated a symposium on this theme. Contemporary approaches to children’s rights were explored in papers by Gerry Marshall and Karen Winter who also presented research on digital innovation - Gerry on the use of virtual immersive environments for social work education, and Karen on very young children’s use of digital technology in the home. Lisa Bunting presented separate papers on the use of administrative data to explore inequality in child welfare and adult protection intervention. Suzanne Mooney’s paper reported on the barriers and enablers to implementing trauma informed approaches in Northern Ireland.
