On Friday 12 March, Queen’s hosted a visit by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine.

The Prime Minister visited one of the laboratories to see first-hand the work that the University is doing to help in the fight against coronavirus where he met a number of researchers working on these vital projects.

Prime Minister Johnson also took time to meet with students, one of which was Psychology student Louis Anthony, who said:

“I was invited to represent the School of Psychology and the EPS Faculty in a meeting with the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the new Turing Programme, which is replacing much of the Erasmus programme for UK universities.

Currently, I am meant to be on a University exchange in Newcastle, Australia. Unfortunately, Covid-19 put a stop to those plans. I have also been accepted for the Study USA exchange for the academic year starting in August. I am hoping to go to the beautiful city of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Of course, Covid-19 has presented many challenges during this academic year. However, given the circumstances, I think the university has managed the situation very well. The PM was confident about the vaccine roll out, so fingers crossed the next academic year will be a little bit more normal.

The PM was remarkably personable and seemed genuinely interested in my university experience. Safe to say it was one of the more unique Friday afternoons I've had!”
