Funding approved for four new KTPs at Queen's
Four new Knowledge Transfer Partnerships at Queen's have been awarded funding by Innovate UK.
A 36-month KTP with Cadbury UK (Birmingham) and Professor Nigel Scollan, Mr Stephane Durand and Dr Shannon McLaughlin of the Institute of Global Food Security (IGFS) (value £314k) will identify and validate dairy sustainability practices and technologies, to enable the building of feasible and economic pathways in different farm settings that can deliver GHG reductions.
A 24-month KTP with Kiverco (Dungannon) and Professor Paul Maropoulos in AMIC and Dr Arfauz Rahman in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (value £214k) will leverage cutting-edge digital twin technology to optimise the quality and performance of Kiverco’s bespoke recycling plants, improve plant design engineering, and enhance efficiency and productivity in manufacturing activities, aligning with customer demands for sustainable solutions and high-purity recovered materials.
A 24-month KTP with Fox Contracts (Omagh) and Dr Tara Brooks, Dr Siobhan Cox and Dr Stephen McIlwaine from School of Natural and Built Environment (value £199k) will develop the capability to monitor carbon emissions across all operations and projects, create a more carbon-efficient supply chain, and enhance sustainability practices, driving both the company and its clients towards achieving net-zero goals.
A 30-month KTP between SmartViz Ltd (London) and Dr Tara Brooks and Dr Faris Elghaish from the School of Natural and Built Environment, valued at £273k, will integrate advanced AI, BIM, and digital twin technologies to accurately predict building performance in terms of carbon emissions and indoor air quality. This project will empower decision-makers to optimise their buildings, driving cost and carbon reductions across their estates.
