NINTH
BIENNIAL CONFERENCE ON
BAROQUE MUSIC

This conference will be held in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland,
from Wednesday July 12th to Sunday July 16th, 2000

The Conference on Baroque Music has grown rapdily in scale and prestige since it began at Durham University in the 1980s. In recent years it has been hosted by the Universities of Birmingham (1996) and Exeter (1998). The ninth conference will be the first to take place outside Britain.

One of the most stimulating aspects of recent conferences has been the attendance of many scholars from outside Britain and Ireland. The eighth conference (Exeter) was the most international one yet, and expressions of interest in the ninth conference suggest that people will be coming, at least, from many countries in Europe, from North America and from Australasia.

The Dublin conference will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach with several events, including papers and round table disussions by internationally distinguished speakers (see Guest Speakers), and concerts. A wide range of scholarly books will be exhibited by Rosemary Dooley, as in the previous conferences.

It is intended that a selection of papers given at this conference will be published in a dedicated volume of Irish Musical Studies. (Details to be announced.)
